From Cape
Range National Park we headed south to Ningaloo Station. A privately run station that allows camping
right on the beach with an absolutely shockingly corrugated and rutted road
in. Made worse as the boys had to nurse
the chemical toilet (full of liquid) between them in the back seat. Ever hopeful that the weather would improve, we
set up in howling winds, being whipped by sand.
The sun did
make regular appearances but without the heat, but also the rain and the wind
never really disappeared. A beautiful
part of the world nevertheless.
We did
manage one feed of flathead thanks to Coen and Ash and a kind fellow camper
gave us some Red Ruby Snapper that he had caught from a boat.

No beginners luck here! |
We saw
plenty of huge stingrays, a couple of dolphins and lots of humpback whales
frolicking behind the outer reef. Ash
cooked one of his famous roasts in the camp oven (lamb this time) and we ate it
on the beach as the sun went down. How
are we ever going to live within 4 walls again!
With the
cooler weather there was plenty of time for the boys to dig a hole big enough
for their chairs, to shelter from the wind.
Due to the weather not really improving and everything being damp and salty we headed out earlier than planned down to Coral Bay.
